Welcome to Fungi Town - the podcast that won't take up mushroom in your schedule.

About the "Mayor" of Fungi Town

Hello there, I'm Jen Parrilli. I write, host, edit, and produce the Fungi Town podcast. My formal education came from the Odum School of Ecology at the University of Georgia, where I earned my B.A. in Ecology with a minor in Anthropology. Before that, I earned my A.S. in Biology at Red Rocks Community College. During the course of my studies, I learned about: plant biology, entomology, mycology, microbiology, and climate change among other things. I chose to couple Ecology and Anthropology because I think the best way to help a community anywhere in the world, is first to understand the culture and needs of the people who live in it. Perhaps the most important lesson I took away from my time in school is the dire need for Science Communication. Scientists need to be heard outside of laboratories, academia, and professional conferences. The public needs to know about science and how they can participate. Science Communication helps build that bridge. I love to write about science and have had articles published in the Athens Science Observer and Earthzine. For my full professional portfolio, you can find me at www.jmparrilli.com. I can also be found on Twitter and LinkedIn.

I've also had the pleasure of being a guest on other great podcasts! Check out my conversation with Judy on Audible Cafe and with Larry on Limited Perspective.

About the show

Fungi Town is a show about the wide, wonderful, and often misunderstood world of molds, mushrooms, and other fungi. It was born from a love of mycology and Science Communication. Each episode features guests who work with fungi in some capacity, whether that's through research, mushroom cultivation, fiber dying, or making music. Fungi Town's gates are open to everyone who is curious about a life form that lives around us, lives in us, and we couldn't live without. Geared toward fostering a wider understanding of fungi, Fungi Town presents sometimes complex scientific topics and makes them fun for the rest of us to discover. You can interact with Fungi Town on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, and YouTube.
